Privacy

This is a low-cookie site that doesn't need or want your personal information.

Human-friendly privacy statement

Before you get to that legally required privacy policy that I'm sure you're excited to read, here's a summary of what you should know about privacy on my site:

  • My personal website was built and is run by me, Eric Fichtl. I'm not a company, I don't sell anything here, and I don't need your personal data (except if you contact me, so I can reply).
  • You should feel comfortable to enjoy the photos or read an article, then leave knowing that my site and I don't know anything about you. Kind of like a dive bar.
  • This site DOES USE two essential cookies that enable you to browse the site safely. These are both first-party session cookies from my content management system, Craft CMS. The cookies are called CraftSessionID and CraftCSRFToken – those links go directly to Craft's explanation of their purpose.
    • These two Craft cookies do not access, collect, or retain any personal or sensitive information.
    • Once you leave my site or close your browser window, these two Craft cookies expire.
  • This site ALSO USES a cookie-free, privacy-oriented analytics tool called Simple Analytics. Here is Simple Analytics' explanation of what they do and do not collect (hint: no personal information is captured in their analytics).
  • My site DOES NOT USE or allow any third-party cookies: no advertising, no trackers, no unnecessary shite. Refreshing, no?
  • If you use my contact form, I will see your email address. That is your personal information, and I will only use it to respond to your message.

That's really about it. Below is the, er, scenic route...

Privacy policy (formal version)

  • Restriction of the data processing, provided that I may not delete your data due to legal obligations (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • Objection to the processing of your data with me (Art. 21 GDPR) and
  • Data portability, provide that you have consented to the data processing or have entered into a contract with me (Art. 20 GDPR).

If you have given me consent, you may withdraw it at any time, which will remain in effect in the future.

You’ll find a list of supervisory authorities (for the non-public area) with their respective addresses here.

Cookies

Type and purpose of the processing

Like many other websites, I use so-called ‘cookies’. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) when you visit my website.

With cookies, my website temporarily receives certain information such as the type of browser and operating system used.

Cookies cannot be used to start programmes or to transmit viruses to a computer. Based on the information contained in cookies, I can facilitate your navigation of my site and properly display my webpages for you.

The data collected by my site will not be shared with third parties under any circumstances nor will a link to personal data be created without your consent.

Of course, you can view my website without cookies. Internet browsers are regularly configured to accept cookies. In general, you can disable the use of cookies via your browser settings at any time. Please use your internet browser’s help function to learn how to change these settings, and keep in mind that individual features of my website may not work if you have disabled the use of cookies.

Retention period and cookies used

If you allow my site to use cookies, via your browser settings or consent, the following cookies may be utilised on my webpages:

  • CraftSessionID
  • CraftCSRFToken

(Note: These cookies used on my site are essential first-party session cookies from the content management system itself, which do not require your consent since they do not access, collect, or retain any personal information. These cookies expire once you leave my site or close your browser window.)

In your browser settings, you can delete individual cookies or the entire set of cookies. You will also find information and instructions on how to delete these cookies or prevent them from being saved in advance. The following links provide the information you’ll need for the respective browser providers:

Analytics

To get critical information about the behaviour of my site visitors, I use Simple Analytics. This analytics software does not use cookies, does not track visitors, and does not store any personal identifiable information. Instead, it gives aggregated and anonymous insights about my visitors. Go to their documentation to find out what Simple Analytics collects (and most importantly what they don't).

Contact form

Type and purpose of the processing

The data you enter are used for individual communication with you and nothing else. A valid email address is required for this communication, which serves to organise your inquiry and the respective subsequent reply. Providing additional information is optional.

Legal basis

The processing of the data entered in the contact form occurs on the basis of a legitimate interest (Art. 6 Para. 1 (f) GDPR).

By providing the contact form, my aim is to facilitate an uncomplicated means for you to contact me. The information you enter will be used to process the inquiry and saved for possible follow-up questions.

If you contact me to request an offer (even though I don't offer anything!), the processing of the information provided in the contact form will occur in order to implement pre-contractual measures (Art. 6 Para. 1 (b) GDPR).

Recipients

Recipients of the data may be processors.

Retention period

The data will be deleted no later than 6 months after processing the inquiry.

Provided that we enter into a contract together, we will use the statutory retention periods in the German Commercial Code (Handelsgesetzbuch) and I will delete your data according to the respective stipulated deadlines.

Mandatory or required provision

The provision of your personal data is voluntary. However, I can only process your inquiry if you provide me with your email address and the reason for your inquiry.

SSL encryption

To protect the security of your data during transmission, I use state-of-the-art encryption methods (such as SSL) via HTTPS.

Revision of this privacy policy

I reserve the right to amend this privacy policy so that it always complies with current legal requirements or to implement changes to my services in the privacy policy, e.g. when introducing new services. Your next visit will be subject to the new privacy policy.

If you have any questions pertaining to data protection on this site, please get in touch via my contact form.

The privacy policy was created via the activeMind AG privacy policy generator (Version: #2018-09-24).
